He was ultimately the winner of the Rising Star, receiving the Ron Evans Medal with 49 votes out of a possible 50. He became the third Sydney Swan to win the award. Following a promising debut season, Mills re-signed with the Swans on a five-year contract that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2023. At the start of 2022 he was named one of the Swans co-captains.
